North East Supplements: Why We Built Canny Buzz in Newcastle

Canny Buzz didn't start in a lab or a London co-working space. It started in Newcastle, in the kind of gyms where people actually train, not pose. The North East has one of the strongest gym cultures in the UK, and it's been that way for a long time. We wanted to build a supplement brand that reflected that: no-nonsense, properly made, and rooted in a community that takes training seriously.

Where It Started

The idea for Canny Buzz came from frustration. We were spending money on pre-workouts that either didn't work, were full of ingredients we couldn't pronounce, or hid their doses behind proprietary blends. Every time we found something decent, it was either American (with shipping costs to match) or so heavily marketed that half the price was paying for the influencer on the label.

We thought: why can't we just make something that works, be upfront about what's in it, and sell it at a fair price? So we did. In Newcastle, where we live and train.

The North East Gym Scene

If you've trained in the North East, you know it's different up here. There's a no-messing attitude in the gyms, people work hard, they don't need gimmicks, and they can spot rubbish supplements a mile off. That's the environment we grew up in, and it's the standard we hold ourselves to.

From the hardcore gyms in Gateshead to the CrossFit boxes in Jesmond to the student gyms around the universities, there's a real culture of training in this part of the country. People here don't need flashy branding or celebrity endorsements to make a decision. They want to know what's in the tub, whether it works, and how much it costs. That's exactly how we built Canny Buzz.

Why Buying Local Matters

We're not going to pretend that buying local is the only thing that matters when choosing a supplement. If the product's rubbish, it doesn't matter where it's made. But when the quality is there, supporting a local brand means your money stays in the local economy, you're buying from people you can actually talk to, and you're supporting a business that cares about the same community you're part of.

We're a small team. When you message us on Instagram or email us a question, you're talking to the same people who designed the formula and packed the orders. That's not something you get with a multinational supplement company.

From Angel of the North to Angel Rage

Our flagship pre-workout is called Angel Rage, and yes, the name is a nod to the Angel of the North. It's the most recognisable landmark in the region, and it felt right to name our first product after something that represents where we come from. It's also a decent metaphor, strong, built to last, and impossible to ignore once you've seen it.

Angel Rage was designed to be a daily-use pre-workout with clinical doses across the board. No proprietary blends, no gimmicks, just effective ingredients at the right amounts. We wanted it to be something that anyone from a beginner to an experienced lifter could rely on every session.

What's Coming Next

We've got plans. More products, more flavours, and more ways to support the training community up here (and across the UK). We're not trying to be the biggest supplement brand in the world - we're trying to be the most honest one. If that sounds like something worth supporting, we'd love to have you along for the ride.

Whether you're training in Newcastle, Sunderland, Durham, Middlesbrough, or anywhere else in the North East, Canny Buzz was built for people like you. And we're just getting started.
